On April 18, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine rescue team, which had just returned from the Yushu disaster zone, brought with it the urgent demand for medical supplies on the front lines of rescue efforts. After three days of emergency treatment and transportation, the number of severely injured and ill individuals has now decreased. As rescue operations continue to unfold, the number of people seeking treatment on-site—those suffering from minor injuries such as crush injuries and abrasions—is on the rise. The frontline rescue teams urgently need topical medications suitable for muscle injuries, as well as drugs for headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, and antibiotics.
On the 15th, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine urgently mobilized supplies and cash totaling over 500,000 yuan to support the disaster-stricken areas. Drawing on its experience from the Wenchuan earthquake relief efforts, Qizheng’s current emergency medical supplies primarily consist of pain-relieving patches and Qingpeng Ointment—both designed to treat acute sprains and strains as well as reduce swelling and relieve pain. To ensure that these life-saving pain-relief and anti-inflammatory medications reach the injured as quickly as possible, Qizheng specially selected staff members with expertise in Tibetan medicine to form a small task force, which immediately set off overnight to deliver the supplies to the disaster zone. On the 16th, Qizheng launched a joint rescue effort with the Yushu Prefecture People’s Hospital. Within half a day, more than 1,000 injured individuals received topical pain-relief medications. During the medication administration, it was observed that many of the injured were elderly people. In addition to physical injuries caused by the aftershocks, numerous survivors also suffered symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, and stomach pain. The topical ointments, rubs, and targeted Tibetan medicines carried by the rescue team were warmly welcomed by the injured.
To maintain order during the disaster relief efforts, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Rescue Team immediately withdrew from Yushu after distributing the medicines. We urge relevant authorities to promptly allocate additional Tibetan medicines and other pharmaceuticals to support frontline responders, helping survivors recover from their injuries more quickly.
