Xinhua Net, Gansu Channel, May 26 — On the 13th day after the Wenchuan earthquake, the disaster still lingers, and the urgent task of post-disaster reconstruction has become paramount. The construction of schools and hospitals has emerged as one of the key priorities in the rebuilding effort. This unprecedented relief campaign has vividly demonstrated the great compassion of humanity, while also highlighting the value of corporate social responsibility. Compared to the ever-rising amounts of donations, private enterprises that have established mature mechanisms for assuming social responsibility through long-term, sustainable engagement in public welfare are particularly exemplary, as they can promptly mobilize their strengths and carry out “rational relief” when disasters strike. In this large-scale relay of charitable efforts by private enterprises eager to fulfill their social responsibilities, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, guided by its core values of “doing good and benefiting others, pursuing righteousness and integrity,” has launched a relief operation characterized by being “swift, sustained, and targeted.”
I. The disaster struck unexpectedly, and 1.54 million yuan worth of trauma pain relief medication was urgently dispatched to the affected areas.
On May 13, the second day after the disaster struck and before rescue channels had been fully opened, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, deeply concerned about the severity of the injuries, immediately contacted the Gansu Province Promotion Association for the Guangcai Cause, requesting a donation of topical pain-relief medications such as "Qizheng Pain-Relieving Plasters." They also actively reached out to the Sichuan Red Cross Society to arrange for donations.
On that day, the roads leading to Wenchuan had not yet been damaged. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine urgently allocated over 500,000 yuan worth of trauma pain relief medications from its Sichuan distributors and delivered them to the Sichuan Red Cross. They managed to catch the last transport convoy heading to the disaster area that day. In the two days that followed, however, the roads to Wenchuan became completely blocked, temporarily halting the delivery of supplies. Immediately afterward, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine directly dispatched medicines worth 1.03 million yuan to the disaster-stricken region of Longnan. For many years, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has regarded building social responsibility and integrity as one of its core business philosophies. During this sudden national crisis, the company was able to respond with unprecedented speed.
II. The disaster area continues to suffer from numerous injuries; another 1.7 million yuan has been raised for external trauma pain relief medication.
On May 18, a large number of injured people in the Sichuan disaster area were still awaiting medical treatment. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine once again organized and swiftly dispatched from Tibet trauma pain relief medications worth 1.7 million yuan and 50,000 yuan worth of drinking water to the Sichuan disaster zone. Upon learning that the situation in Gannan was also severely affected, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine immediately mobilized an additional 130,000 yuan worth of medicines from its local enterprises in Gannan to support the frontline rescue efforts in Zhouqu on the same day.
3. With disaster relief efforts ongoing, we’re stepping up production of 2.8 million yuan worth of trauma pain relief medication.
On May 23, most of the injured had been safely evacuated. However, the PLA soldiers and medical personnel engaged in disaster relief remained at constant risk of injury. Concerned about the safety of the relief workers, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine decided to organize another donation of medicines worth 2.8 million yuan to support those on the front lines of the rescue effort. Given that their previous medicine reserves had repeatedly reached critical levels, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine urgently arranged for overtime production of disaster-relief medications.
IV. Post-disaster reconstruction is urgent; an additional 1 million yuan in charitable donations will be earmarked for targeted assistance.
At present, post-disaster reconstruction has become an urgent priority, and the rebuilding of schools and hospitals has emerged as one of the key tasks. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine immediately thought of its corporate initiative—the “Hundred Clinics in Tibetan Areas” donation program. Over the years, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has been passionately committed to public welfare, starting from sporadic acts of kindness such as donating roads and supporting orphans and the disabled, and later expanding into participation in the "Guangcai Project." As a result, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has established a sustained mechanism for assuming social responsibility: regularly setting aside a portion of its profits for charitable causes. Gradually, the company has built up a strong presence in the fields of educational support and medical assistance in western China, accumulating experience in planning sustainable public welfare projects. The “Hundred Clinics” project is one such initiative.
Given its systematic project management framework and dedicated financial reserves, on the evening of May 25, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine donated RMB 1 million through the Gansu Civil Affairs Department to the large-scale disaster relief charity concert “Walking with Love” in Gansu Province, earmarking the funds for the construction of clinics in Bikou, Wen County, Longnan, and Zhouqu, Gannan.
Rational disaster relief is the result of charity becoming a norm. It represents corporate citizenship integrating social responsibility into development mechanisms and strategically planning resource reserves for deployment. Rational disaster relief will enable more charitable donations to be pooled together and utilized more effectively, thereby playing a more proactive role in a timely manner.
