On February 17, the "Founding and First Meeting of the China Traditional Chinese Medicine Enterprises’ Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Forum," hosted by TRAFFIC—the International Wildlife Trade Research Organization, the China Medicinal Materials Promotion Association (CMPMA), the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), and the China Wild Plant Conservation Association (CWPCA), was held in Beijing. The forum brought together leading representatives from relevant government departments—including the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the EU Delegation to China, the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica at the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and the International Society for Business and Social Responsibility—as well as renowned experts, scholars, and corporate representatives. Mr. Chen Weiwu, General Manager of our company’s R&D Center, was invited to attend the forum and delivered a keynote speech titled “Practices in the Sustainable Development and Utilization of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Resources,” sharing the company’s insights and practical explorations in promoting corporate sustainability and actively fulfilling its social responsibilities.
Tibetan medicinal resources possess unique geographical, climatic, and cultural characteristics. Predominantly found at high altitudes, these resources are relatively less affected by pollution from modern industry, boast a rich biodiversity, and offer pure, highly effective medicinal products. However, at the current stage, the sustainable development of Tibetan medicinal resources faces numerous challenges, including ecological changes in resource and environmental conditions, a lack of scientific exploration and sophisticated processing techniques, lagging efforts in cultivation and technological research, and a shortage of qualified personnel.
Since its establishment, our company has firmly embraced a management philosophy that respects, harnesses, and gives back to nature. We were among the first to set up a Tibetan medicinal herb conservation and cultivation base in Milin County, Linzhi Prefecture, Tibet. Over the past two decades, guided by the principles of protecting Tibetan medicinal resources, safeguarding the ecosystem, and making rational use of natural resources, our enterprise has consistently pursued a scientific path of sustainable development. Through continuous practice and exploration in areas such as the conservation of Tibetan medicinal herb resources, the construction of cultivation bases, the standardization of Tibetan medicinal herbs, the rational utilization of resources, and the strengthening of the technical workforce dedicated to resource management, we have achieved significant results, providing both material and technological support for the company’s sustainable development.
As part of the Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plant Resources (EU) project, this forum event has attracted active attention from various sectors of society. The convening of this conference marks the official launch of the “China Traditional Chinese Medicine Enterprises Social Responsibility Forum.” The forum will establish a long-term platform and mechanism to encourage the participation of multiple stakeholders, promote TCM enterprises in leading sustainable procurement and production, foster responsible business relationships, and—through discussions on sustainability standards such as “Fair Wild” and related CSR standards—enhance both companies’ own management capabilities and their management of suppliers, thereby driving the establishment of a sustainable Chinese herbal medicine supply chain in China.
