Selected for the Classic Case Analysis Report on CSR Reports of Chinese Listed Companies

　　Recently, in the report “Classic Case Analysis of CSR Reports of Chinese Listed Companies 2015,” compiled by the China Corporate Social Responsibility Network, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine was selected as a case study under the “Community Engagement” section. The report commented: “Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s social responsibility report highlights the company’s commitment to community engagement related to its core business—Tibetan traditional medicine—through initiatives such as ‘public welfare schools for traditional Tibetan medical education’ and the establishment of ‘Tibetan medicine clinics.’ These efforts effectively demonstrate the company’s strategic approach to engaging in community activities as an enterprise deeply rooted in ethnic regions.”

　　It is understood that the Beijing Haidian Integrity Technology Development Center—affiliated with the China Corporate Social Responsibility Network—is a member organization of the UN Global Compact and a non-profit institution providing consulting services on corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investment. Since 2008, the center has been conducting research and assessments on the CSR practices of Chinese listed companies, and its research findings have been adopted by overseas financial institutions. Each year, Integrity Technology tracks, reads, and analyzes a large number of CSR reports from listed companies, subjecting them to analysis and evaluation from the perspective and standards of responsible (sustainable) investing. The report released this time surveyed and assessed a total of 948 listed companies that published their social responsibility reports between January 1 and May 30, 2015; among these, 485 were deemed valid samples, and the final report presents a total of 28 exemplary case studies.

　　In recent years, an increasing number of companies have been publishing corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, and this trend has continued to grow year after year. On the one hand, this growth is driven and encouraged by multiple stakeholders—including governments, stock exchanges, industry associations, and NGOs. On the other hand, companies themselves have good reason to help the public understand that “a company’s existence is not solely about pursuing economic profits.” Today, socially responsible investing (SRI)—an investment approach that takes into account the interests of society, the environment, and stakeholders—has become increasingly popular among institutional investors. For publicly listed companies, actively fulfilling their social responsibilities and disclosing CSR reports has also become a key driving force behind their sustainable development.

　　Since its listing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2009, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has voluntarily published corporate social responsibility reports based on international standards for six consecutive years. The company deeply understands that the inheritance and preservation of intangible cultural heritage are crucial to traditional Tibetan medical education. No matter how advanced and progressive modern education becomes, or how rich and diverse modern material life may be, the civilization and scientific knowledge accumulated over centuries remain an immensely precious treasure for human society and health. Through the donation and construction of the Gongbu Manlong Yutuo Tibetan Medical School, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is committed to preserving and promoting traditional education, making it an important complement to modern education and medicine. Over the past 11 years, the school has trained a group of experienced Tibetan doctors who meet the needs of local communities in agricultural and pastoral areas, playing a vital role in addressing the difficulties people face in accessing medical care at the grassroots level in these regions. Currently, the third cohort comprises 80 students, hailing from Lhasa, Nagqu, Shannan, Nyingchi, Shigatse, Chamdo, Qinghai, and other regions.

　　Relying on local medical resources to develop healthcare services in remote Tibetan areas and providing effective traditional Tibetan medicine treatments to the local population has always been a key health-care focus for Qizheng Tibetan Medicine. In 2008, the company launched its special “Tibetan Cultural Preservation and Heritage” fund, initiating the “100 Tibetan Medical Clinics Initiative.” As of 2015, the company had donated to and supported the operation of a total of 14 Tibetan medical clinics in Tibetan regions including Tibet and Qinghai. These clinics have earned widespread trust and popularity among the local communities.
