On October 24, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce released in Beijing the “List of 100 Outstanding Private Entrepreneurs Over the 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up.” Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine (002287), was included on the list. This honor marks another significant recognition for Ms. Lei Jufang in the 40th-anniversary celebrations of reform and opening-up, following her earlier award as a “Distinguished Figure in the Pharmaceutical Industry Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up.”
As one of the few female entrepreneurs elected to leadership positions, Lei Jufang chose to build her career on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the average altitude exceeds 4,000 meters. For more than two decades, she has remained steadfastly committed to a selfless, altruistic spirit, sparing no effort to promote the modernization of traditional medicine and tirelessly advocating for the development of ethnic medicines. With extraordinary wisdom, courage, and resilience, she has helped Tibetan medicine carve out a significant place in China’s pharmaceutical market, benefiting hundreds of millions of consumers across mainland China.
It is reported that this list took half a year to compile, undergoing multiple rounds of rigorous screening and careful review. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up, in order to highlight the tremendous achievements made by the private sector, showcase the exemplary spirit of private entrepreneurs as builders of socialism with Chinese characteristics, vigorously promote the outstanding entrepreneurial ethos, and encourage all non-public-sector economic actors to “never forget their original entrepreneurial aspirations and carry forward the great cause of reform,” thereby making new contributions to realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the Central United Front Work Department and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce have spent half a year conducting multiple rounds of screening and strict review, ultimately releasing a list of 100 outstanding private entrepreneurs and recommending them for publicity as among the 100 most distinguished private entrepreneurs of the 40-year period of reform and opening-up.
According to statistics, as of the end of 2017, China had 27.263 million private enterprises. The private sector contributes more than 50% of the country’s tax revenue, accounts for over 60% of the nation’s GDP and fixed-asset investment, and represents over 70% of technological innovation and new product development. It also provides more than 80% of employment opportunities and accounts for over 90% of the total number of enterprises and the share of newly created jobs. The private sector underpins “half of China’s economy” and plays a vital role in ensuring stable growth, fostering innovation, boosting employment, and improving people’s livelihoods.
