On October 24, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce held a press conference to release the list of “100 Outstanding Private Entrepreneurs Commemorating 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up,” jointly recommended and promoted by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. Among those honored are Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine in the pharmaceutical industry; Li Zhenguo, Chairman of Jiuzhitang; Wu Yiling from Yiling Pharmaceutical; and Chang Zhaohua, Chairman of Shanghai MicroPort Medical Device Co., Ltd.
Among them, Lei Jufang, as one of the few female entrepreneurs elected to office, has once again drawn significant market attention. It is understood that under Lei Jufang’s leadership, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has been developing its business on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the average altitude exceeds 4,000 meters. For more than 20 years, she has been dedicated to promoting the modernization of traditional medicine and tirelessly advocating for the development of ethnic medicines.
Fan Youshan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, introduced that under the guidance of the Party’s guidelines and policies, the private economy has experienced rapid development, making significant contributions to the great leap of the Chinese nation—from standing up to becoming prosperous and then strong. Through the trials and tribulations of reform and opening-up and the market economy, a large number of private entrepreneurs have grown rapidly. To mark the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce jointly recommended and publicized 100 outstanding private entrepreneurs who have made remarkable achievements over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up. This initiative aims to highlight the major accomplishments of China’s private economic development since the start of reform and opening-up, showcase the exemplary spirit of private entrepreneurs as builders of socialism with Chinese characteristics, vigorously promote the spirit of outstanding entrepreneurs, create a favorable environment for the healthy growth of private entrepreneurs, and better inspire non-public-sector economic actors to “never forget their original entrepreneurial aspirations and carry forward the great cause of reform,” thus making new contributions to realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Fan Youshan emphasized that today, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The development of the non-public sector economy and the growth of non-public-sector economic actors are facing both greater opportunities and greater challenges. He expressed hope that private entrepreneurs, standing at this new historical starting point, will remain firm in their ideals and convictions, seize the momentum, boldly take the lead, practice the new development philosophy, uphold the entrepreneurial spirit, play their role as entrepreneurs, promote high-quality enterprise development, actively fulfill social responsibilities, contribute to winning the three major battles, and better shoulder the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them in the new era, continuing their efforts to promote the sustained and healthy development of China’s economy and society.
Data shows that, as of the end of 2017, China had 27.263 million private enterprises. The private sector contributes more than 50% of the country’s tax revenue, accounts for over 60% of the GDP and fixed-asset investment, and represents over 70% of technological innovation and new product development. It also provides more than 80% of employment opportunities and accounts for over 90% of both the total number of enterprises and the share of newly created jobs.
