On June 22, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine brand made its debut on the Nasdaq digital billboard in New York’s Times Square, becoming the first company to showcase a traditional Chinese medicine brand there. This move allows the world to experience the health wisdom and remarkable therapeutic effects of Tibetan medicine, originating from the snow-covered plateau.
As an important component of China’s traditional medicine, ethnic medicine has made indispensable contributions to the health of both Chinese people and people around the world. It particularly boasts unique advantages in the treatment of complex and challenging illnesses, serious diseases, and chronic conditions. As a leading domestic enterprise specializing in Tibetan medicine, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is committed to becoming the “modern inheritor of millennia-old Tibetan medicine.” In recent years, the company has also been actively pursuing internationalization; its products first entered overseas markets as early as 2003. In 2013, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine further collaborated with Professor David Christiani, a renowned international expert in occupational disease research at Harvard University, to establish the “Harvard University Professor David Christiani–Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Research Laboratory,” focusing on the role and expansion of Tibetan medicine in addressing major diseases from a global perspective.
New York’s Times Square in the United States is renowned as “the Crossroads of the World,” attracting tourists from all over the globe every day. It has become one of the world’s most prominent stages for top global brands and has also emerged as one of the best windows for Chinese enterprises to go global and capture worldwide attention. In recent years, the Chinese government has emphasized accelerating the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), providing fresh momentum for TCM’s global outreach. As a result, an increasing number of TCM companies have stepped up their efforts to promote TCM culture overseas, enabling the world to gain a deeper understanding of and embrace TCM—a uniquely Chinese medicinal tradition—and fostering the internationalization of the TCM industry, thus allowing the world to share in the treasures and wisdom of TCM and ethnic medicines. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s appearance on the big screen at Times Square this time will enable the world to appreciate the unique culture of Tibetan medicine and further accelerate the international journey of ethnic medicine enterprises.
It is reported that currently, 4 billion people worldwide use traditional Chinese herbal products, and the global market for these products has reached an annual turnover of nearly 500 billion yuan. Traditional Chinese medicine has been exported to 168 countries and regions, with Asia being the primary export market and the United States ranking as the second-largest market. Aside from China, 64 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania have successively established research and regulatory agencies dedicated to traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine, bringing the total number of such institutions to over 2,000. Among these, Japan, the United States, and Germany have the largest numbers of researchers specializing in traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, about 5% of patients in the United States take natural medicines, including traditional Chinese medicine. Across the U.S., there are approximately 12,000 pharmacies—ranging from traditional Chinese medicine shops to combined Chinese-Western medicine stores and health product stores selling Chinese herbs—whose annual sales exceed 2 billion U.S. dollars.
