Seventy years have passed—a remarkable journey marked by prosperity for our country and our family. For twenty-four years, we’ve pursued our dreams on the plateau, yet our original aspirations remain unchanged. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, was awarded the “Commemorative Medal for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission. This medal recognizes Ms. Lei Jufang’s contributions to modernizing traditional medicine through technological innovation, as well as her unwavering commitment to balancing integrity with profit and supporting economic development in underdeveloped, remote, and impoverished regions—truly a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit. It is also a shared honor for all members of the Qizheng family!

The awarding of the commemorative medal “Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” is an important component of the series of celebratory activities marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. The medal is made of copper with a gold-plated surface, has a diameter of 50 millimeters, and features as its main elements the Five-Star emblem, a ribbon bearing the number “70,” a knot of intertwined ribbons, auspicious clouds, and rays of light. The dominant colors are red and gold. At the heart of the medal lies the Five-Star emblem, symbolizing national honor. The ribbon bearing the number “70” represents the 70-year journey of struggle undertaken by the People’s Republic of China. The knot of intertwined ribbons encircles both the Five-Star emblem and the “70” ribbon, embodying the vision of great unity among all ethnic groups across the country and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. The outer ring of the medal is adorned with auspicious clouds and rays of light, symbolizing the people’s yearning for a better life while also expressing the solemn celebration of the founding of the People’s Republic of China—a tribute to the nation’s remarkable achievements in prosperity, national rejuvenation, and the happiness of its people. Moreover, it underscores the firm determination to remain true to our original aspirations and continue forging ahead on the basis of the glorious accomplishments achieved over the past 70 years.

It is understood that to receive this honor, one must meet at least one of the following criteria: First, veteran comrades who participated in revolutionary work before the founding of the People’s Republic of China and are still alive; second, individuals who received national-level awards or higher honors after the founding of the People’s Republic of China and are still alive; third, military personnel (including veterans) who were awarded first-class merit or higher for their wartime service after the founding of the People’s Republic of China and are still alive; fourth, international friends who have made outstanding contributions to the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Ms. Lei Jufang was awarded this honor because she had previously received the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

In the 1980s, responding to the Party Central Committee’s call for scientific and technological personnel to “head into the main battlefield of the national economy,” Lei Jufang resolutely resigned from the Institute of Modern Physics in Lanzhou, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and ventured into entrepreneurship. In 1995, inspired by the spirit of the Guangcai Initiative—“balancing profit with public interest” in poverty alleviation and development—Lei Jufang set out for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and devoted herself to the Tibetan medicine industry. At that time, Tibetan medicine had just been incorporated into the national ministerial standards system and lacked a solid industrial foundation. To harness the wisdom of traditional Tibetan medicine to serve contemporary people and carry forward this millennia-old medical tradition was no easy feat. Lei Jufang focused her exploration on the field of topical pain relief. Pain management, which embodies the wisdom of Tibetan medicine, is a strength of Tibetan medical practice and has demonstrated remarkable therapeutic efficacy. Yet, for years, pain-relieving ointments from Tibet could not be transported over long distances, nor could they be stored for extended periods. Lei Jufang pioneered new technologies, integrating modern science and technology into ointment production and creating a novel wet-application patch formulation. This breakthrough successfully addressed the problem of herbal mold growth while preserving the ointment’s activity and therapeutic potency. As one senior academician put it, Lei Jufang’s technological innovation has brought about a revolution in China’s topical patch preparations. The application of innovative technology has broken down barriers of time and geography for patients, enabling more people to benefit. For her outstanding contributions, Ms. Lei Jufang was awarded the Second Prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress, filling a significant gap in the history of science and technology in Tibet.
For more than two decades, Lei Jufang has led Qizheng Tibetan Medicine in developing its business on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the average altitude exceeds 4,000 meters. By integrating modern technology with the essence of traditional Tibetan medicine, she has promoted Tibetan medicine through a strategy of both preserving and advancing its legacy, enabling Tibetan medicine to carve out a significant niche in China’s pharmaceutical market and bringing health benefits to hundreds of millions of consumers across mainland China. She has also been diligently exploring sustainable economic development mechanisms for impoverished regions, working hand-in-hand with local communities to achieve shared growth and prosperity. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Lei Jufang stated that, looking ahead, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine will remain true to its original aspirations, continue to strive forward with dedication, and imbue this ancient medical tradition with new meaning! In the new era, we will unlock limitless possibilities and bring greater health benefits to even more patients!
