On June 22, the Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine brand made its debut on the Nasdaq digital billboard in New York’s Times Square, becoming the first Chinese enterprise to showcase a traditional ethnic medicine brand there. This marks an exciting opportunity for the world to experience the health wisdom and remarkable therapeutic effects of Tibetan medicine from the snow-covered plateau.
As an important component of traditional Chinese medicine, ethnic medicine boasts unique advantages, particularly in the treatment of complex and rare diseases, serious illnesses, and chronic conditions. As a leading Tibetan medicine enterprise in China, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is committed to becoming the “modern inheritor of thousand-year-old Tibetan medicine.” In recent years, the company has also been actively pursuing internationalization; its products entered the U.S. market as early as 2003.
In 2013, Qizheng Pharmaceutical once again collaborated with Professor David Christiani of Harvard University, an internationally renowned expert in occupational disease research, to establish the “Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Research Laboratory,” focusing on the role and expansion of Tibetan medicine in addressing major diseases from a global perspective.
New York’s Times Square in the United States, hailed as “the Crossroads of the World,” draws visitors from all over the globe every day. It serves as a premier showcase for the world’s most prominent brands and has become one of the best windows for Chinese enterprises to go global and capture worldwide attention. In recent years, China has emphasized accelerating the pace of TCM’s internationalization, injecting new momentum into its global expansion. As a result, an increasing number of TCM companies have stepped up efforts to promote TCM culture overseas. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s appearance on the giant screen in Times Square this time will enable the world to appreciate the unique culture of Tibetan medicine and further propel ethnic pharmaceutical companies to speed up their journey onto the global stage.
It is reported that currently, 4 billion people worldwide use traditional Chinese medicine products, and the global TCM market has reached an annual turnover of nearly 500 billion yuan. Chinese medicines have been exported to 168 countries and regions, with Asia being the primary export market for TCM, and the United States ranking as the second-largest market. Aside from China, 64 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania have successively established research and regulatory agencies for traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine, totaling over 2,000 institutions. Among these, Japan, the United States, and Germany have the largest numbers of TCM researchers. Currently, about 5% of patients in the United States take natural medicines, including Chinese medicines. Across the U.S., there are approximately 12,000 pharmacies—ranging from traditional Chinese medicine shops to integrated Chinese-Western medicine stores or health product stores selling Chinese medicines—whose annual sales exceed 2 billion U.S. dollars.
The “Qizheng Pain-Relieving Plaster,” originating from the snowy regions of Tibet, has been widely used by national-level sports teams—including the Chinese National Football Team and the Chinese National Athletics Team—as well as by more than 2,000 large and medium-sized hospitals across China. It has been thoroughly proven to deliver effective relief for acute and chronic sprains and strains, injuries from falls and contusions, frozen shoulder, cervical and lumbar pain, osteophytes, stiff neck, rheumatism, and rheumatoid arthritis.
