On the evening of April 24, Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Qizheng Tibetan Medicine") released its 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, comprehensively disclosing the company's sustainability strategy and management philosophy, practical approaches, as well as specific progress made in key areas such as patient care, technological innovation, employee development, cultural heritage preservation, and resource conservation. This marks the 16th consecutive year that the company has published a sustainability report.
The report highlights Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s practical achievements in ensuring the quality and supply stability of medicinal materials by building a green and sustainable supply chain, safeguarding the ecology of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and promoting biodiversity conservation. It showcases the company’s ESG governance capabilities and social responsibility as a leading enterprise in the modernization of Tibetan medicine.
The report shows that Qizheng Tibetan Medicine ensures the quality and supply stability of medicinal materials from the source by building a green and sustainable supply chain. The company has established a database of Tibetan medicinal materials and conducts in-depth resource surveys and research annually in the places of origin, providing a solid decision-making basis for the scientific conservation and rational utilization of Tibetan medicinal resources. The company continues to expand high-quality, locally-produced areas; in 2024, it added nine new wild-cultivation bases (covering over 80,000 mu) and nine cooperative bases (covering 1,100 mu). As of the end of the reporting period, the base coverage rate for 38 products exceeded 50%. The company has signed long-term, base-based procurement agreements with local farmers, herders, sliced herbal medicine enterprises, and agricultural cooperatives, thereby establishing a collaborative supply chain mechanism characterized by equality and mutual benefit. Additionally, the company has set up a rigorous supplier access and assessment system, conducts regular on-site audits focusing on environmental protection and energy efficiency, and implements an “Annual Comprehensive Evaluation” system to strengthen quality control across the entire supply chain.
In safeguarding the ecological integrity of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the company has actively engaged in research on Tibetan medicinal herb cultivation techniques and alternative approaches; established wild-cultivation bases in high-altitude, frigid regions; and promoted sustainable harvesting practices at the herbs’ places of origin. As of the end of 2024, the company has cumulatively conducted cultivation technology research on 58 different plant species and now owns a total of 502,450 mu of various bases primarily dedicated to wild-cultivation.
Biodiversity conservation is a key focus of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s ESG practices. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is a member of the Business and Biodiversity Initiative, and it is the first Chinese enterprise to respond to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on “Life on Land.” The company’s case study, “Sustainable Development and Utilization of Tibetan Medicinal Plant Resources,” has been included in the book “China’s Practices in Corporate Contributions to Biodiversity Conservation” and was presented at the side event titled “Corporate Collaboration in Addressing the Biodiversity and Climate Crises” held at the China Pavilion during COP15.
