On August 20, the 11th Global Compact China-Japan-South Korea Virtual Roundtable was held in Jinan. As the sole corporate representative, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine was invited to deliver a speech at the sub-forum—the China-Japan-South Korea Youth and Biodiversity Forum—on the theme “Protecting the Biodiversity of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Through Real Industry.”

As a leading domestic enterprise in Tibetan medicine, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has been striving since its inception to strike a balance between the development and conservation of Tibetan medicinal resources. After more than two decades of dedicated effort and exploration, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has come to deeply understand that, while pursuing market development, it is essential to protect the biodiversity of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and embrace a path of sustainable development. This commitment not only safeguards the plateau’s ecosystem but is also closely intertwined with the modern inheritance of traditional Tibetan medical culture and the long-term sustainability of the company itself.
Qizheng Tibetan Medicine adheres to the concept of sustainable development, placing ecological sustainability on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at the heart of its corporate social responsibility agenda and revising its corporate development strategy accordingly. On a practical level, the company conducts resource surveys and alternative research on Tibetan medicinal materials at the source, continuously optimizes production processes and formulations, and actively pursues sustainable procurement practices throughout the supply chain. In 2019, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine continued to undertake the national survey of Tibetan medicinal resources, conducting field investigations in more than 70 regions, eight of which are restricted areas or no-man’s lands. The company has established wild cultivation bases for raw Tibetan medicinal materials in their high-altitude native habitats and is actively promoting the domestication and cultivation of wild species that are scarce in natural resources. It is also engaged in research on Tibetan medicinal plant cultivation techniques and the construction of specialized cultivation bases. As of the end of 2018, the company had over 103,000 mu of protected and cultivated research bases located in various regions including Linzhi and Shannan in Tibet, with altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 meters. During the same period, the company conducted research on cultivation techniques for 50 different Tibetan medicinal species, covering three categories: endangered Tibetan medicinal materials, major Tibetan medicinal varieties, and Tibetan medicinal materials with growth potential as well as those with dual medicinal and food uses.
In 2018, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, in collaboration with the WTO Economic Herald, launched a new initiative called the “Golden Bee Global CSR 2030 Initiative,” focusing on the development of Tibetan medicine and the conservation of biodiversity on the plateau. Through eight key action pathways—including promoting research into Tibetan medicinal herb cultivation techniques in their native habitats and implementing sustainable harvesting practices—this initiative aims to drive sustainable development in the fields of medicine, culture, economy, species conservation, and environmental protection.
The “Global Compact” initiative was proposed by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos in January 1999. In July 2000, the United Nations Headquarters officially established the “UN Global Compact Organization,” calling on businesses worldwide to adhere to internationally recognized values and principles—the ten principles of the Global Compact. The China Network of the Global Compact is the sole locally authorized network in China, formally empowered by the UN Global Compact Organization, with the goal of promoting sustainable development among Chinese enterprises. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine was one of the earliest private enterprises to join this initiative. In 2013 and 2014, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine was consecutively selected as a “Best Practice Case of the Global Compact China Network” for its practical explorations in fostering the development of the ethnic medicine industry and providing long-term support to Tibetan areas through sustained mechanisms. In 2016, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine was awarded the “Pioneer Enterprise for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” by the China Network of the Global Compact for its highly effective contributions to sustainable development. In July 2019, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, as a representative of domestic small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of sustainable development, was invited to participate in the China-Germany Sustainable Development Business Roundtable Conference co-organized by the China Network of the Global Compact.
