On December 10, the “2020 China Corporate Summit for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” guided by the China Enterprise Confederation, the China Entrepreneurs Association, and the UN Global Compact, and hosted by the UN Global Compact China Network, was held in Beijing. Ms. Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, has built a corporate responsibility management system that effectively promotes the sustainable development of the Tibetan medicine industry and substantially advances the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in China. As recognized by a panel of experts, she was awarded the title of “2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals China Pioneer.” Zhu Hongren, Chairman of the UN Global Compact China Network; Song Zhiping, President of the China Association of Listed Companies; and Liu Meng, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific at the UN Global Compact, attended the event and delivered speeches.

In 1995, Lei Jufang joined the Chinese Guangcai Poverty Alleviation Delegation to Tibet and devoted herself to the Guangcai cause. In Linzhi, she founded Qizheng Tibetan Medicine—the first enterprise under the Guangcai Science and Technology Assistance-to-Tibet program.
Led by Lei Jufang, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has taken root in ethnic minority regions in western China and is dedicated to the modernization of the Tibetan medicine industry. The company has become a leading domestic enterprise in the Tibetan medicine sector and a benchmark for the modernization of Tibetan medicine. As of the end of 2019, the company had 16 wholly-owned and controlling subsidiaries, including GMP-certified pharmaceutical factories and GSP-compliant marketing companies, with a total workforce of 2,191 employees. It boasts 55 registered Tibetan medicine products and 72 approved drug registration numbers, covering specialized therapeutic areas such as orthopedics, neurology, gynecology, and gastroenterology. Its flagship product, Xiao Tong Tie Gao (Pain-Relieving Plaster), has consistently maintained the top market share for many years.
For the past 25 years, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has continuously reinvested its growing economic and social benefits back into the Tibetan areas, thereby fulfilling the “balancing righteousness and profit, with righteousness taking precedence” philosophy and poverty-alleviation goals of the Guangcai Initiative. As a model for poverty alleviation and development, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has been promoted worldwide by the United Nations. As of the end of 2019, the company had cumulatively invested 120 million yuan in social welfare initiatives—including medical care, education, and poverty alleviation—in Tibetan areas and western China. Moreover, the company has paid a total of 2.014 billion yuan in taxes in Tibet, making it an important contributor to the local fiscal revenue.
Lei Jufang recognizes that social responsibility enhances a company’s overall value and promotes its sustainable development. Under her leadership, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has established the corporate values of “doing good and benefiting others, pursuing righteousness and integrity in business,” as well as the corporate mission of “spreading wisdom and caring for health.” The company has also articulated a clear vision: “to become a sustainably operating enterprise that continuously creates value for customers in the field of traditional medicine.” Furthermore, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has completed the top-level design of its corporate social responsibility framework and developed a system of key, quantifiable core indicators. Based on these foundations, the company has built a comprehensive and sustainable operational system.
Under the impetus of Lei Jufang, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has established itself in the field of traditional medicine and has undertaken extensive exploration and practice in fulfilling its social responsibilities toward local small and medium-sized enterprises. It has sought solutions to major social issues that urgently need to be addressed during the nation’s economic and social development and structural transformation, while simultaneously achieving a dual enhancement of both the company’s commercial performance and its social contributions.
The COVID-19 pandemic struck unexpectedly, and Lei Jufang, coordinating with Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, immediately mobilized classic Tibetan medicines to rush to Wuhan’s frontline in the fight against the epidemic. As production and work resumed, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine expedited the manufacture of classic Tibetan medicines specifically designed for plague disasters and infectious viruses, remaining ever-ready to provide support wherever it was needed. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine also actively participated in the research team led by Academician Zhong Nanshan, helping to screen Tibetan medicines for their potential use in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. To date, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has provided a total of 6.7 million yuan in medicines, epidemic prevention supplies, and financial assistance to the frontline of epidemic control efforts.
