CPPCC member Lei Jufang calls for support for ethnic specialty industries.

On January 24, the Third Session of the Tenth Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Gansu Province opened in Lanzhou. On the morning of the 26th, the Third Session of the Tenth CPPCC in Gansu Province held a special symposium for CPPCC members titled “Paying Attention to People’s Livelihoods and Jointly Building Harmony.” This was the first time in Gansu Province that CPPCC members were allowed to voluntarily sign up to participate in a specialized symposium, breaking away from traditional sector-based restrictions. Members enthusiastically put forward suggestions on hot topics such as the economy, education, transportation, and talent development. Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine and a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial CPPCC, participated in this session and offered relevant proposals.
The Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is the region in Gansu Province with the strongest foundation for developing ethnic-specific industries. In recent years, the counties within the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture have formulated strategies aimed at strengthening, enriching, and revitalizing their respective counties, leveraging their unique resource advantages. They have actively focused on the non-public economic sector, and have now cultivated nine major industrial systems within the non-public economy: agricultural and animal husbandry production, processing of agricultural and livestock products, construction materials, ethnic goods manufacturing, mineral resource development, tourism services, Tibetan medicine processing and Tibetan medicinal herb cultivation, processing of wild mountain delicacies, and commercial and trade distribution. However, due to significant differences in policy support compared to other Tibetan areas such as Tibet and Qinghai, the development of these industries still faces numerous challenges and limitations, lacking sufficient momentum. In recent years, there has been a noticeable outflow of talent from local enterprises. If timely and effective measures are not taken, the gap between the Gannan region and other Tibetan areas like Tibet and Qinghai will continue to widen. It is recommended that our province’s Gannan Autonomous Prefecture adopt policies similar to those implemented in Qinghai and Tibet, drawing on the successful experiences of other Tibetan regions. By intensifying policy support, we can substantially enhance the development level of agriculture and pastoral industries, nurture distinctive advantageous industries, strengthen efforts to attract investment, draw more enterprises and capital into Gannan, and accelerate the rapid development of all sectors in Gannan.
