According to a report by Hexun.com, the “2012 (4th) Dalian China Economic Forum” was held in Dalian from May 26 to 27, 2012. The theme of this forum was “Reform and Opening-up: The Driving Force Behind Economic Development.” At the forum, Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., stated that the combination of the internet and the pharmaceutical industry can benefit humanity.
The following is a transcript of the speech:
Lei Jufang: The integration of the internet and industry has reminded me of a real-life example. Many friends often ask me, “Our elderly family member has had a stroke and now has trouble walking. Recovery is a long and painful process for the patient.” Actually, in Tibet, there are some remarkably effective solutions to problems like this. For instance, patients with rheumatoid arthritis often travel far and wide in search of treatment. Twenty years ago, I visited a remote monastery in the Tibetan region of Gansu, where I met patients from Shanghai and Nanjing. I was quite surprised—how could people from such a big city end up in such a remote place? They told me that they’d almost exhausted their entire savings, having traveled to every place advertised as offering potential cures. It was only when fellow patients recommended that they’d found an effective treatment in Tibet that they finally decided to try it out. If we could leverage the internet to easily share information about such treatments with patients, what would happen? Take stroke recovery, rheumatoid arthritis, or diabetes—what would emerge from the combination of the internet, digital systems, and my industry? I’d say it could effectively help humanity address the universal challenges of birth, aging, illness, and death.
