The inaugural National Ethnic Medicine Science and Technology Awards have been announced, with Qizheng Tibetan Medicine winning two first-place awards.

　　The first National Ethnic Medicine Science and Technology Awards were recently announced in Chongqing. A total of 96 projects received awards, covering research achievements from 16 ethnic medicine disciplines. These awards reflect China’s comprehensive accomplishments over the years in various areas of ethnic medicine, including basic research, cultural heritage preservation, technological innovation, and industrial development. Among the winners, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd. was honored with both the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress and the First Prize for Innovation in the Ethnic Medicine Industry.

　　Liu Kai, Director and President of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, introduced that in recent years, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has continuously leveraged technological innovation to enhance quality standards, innovate dosage forms, and conduct evidence-based medical research, thereby bringing this ancient ethnic medicine up to the standards required by modern pharmaceuticals. Moreover, drawing on the cultural heritage of ethnic medicine, the company has explored modern, specialized marketing models, using both brand marketing and academic marketing to achieve value creation and marketization of ethnic medicines. As of now, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine holds 73 approved drug registration numbers, 9 exclusive products, and 5 protected traditional Chinese medicine varieties; it also possesses 110 patents and is undertaking nearly 40 national and local scientific research projects.

　　It is understood that the National Award for Ethnic Medicine Science and Technology is the only award in China’s ethnic medicine science and technology field that has been registered with the Office of National Science and Technology Awards. Co-sponsored by the Chinese Society for Ethnic Medicine and the China Association for Ethnic Medicine, the award aims to summarize recent scientific and technological achievements in ethnic medicine and recognize groups and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of ethnic medicine science and technology.

　　The National Ethnic Medicine Science and Technology Awards comprise six categories: the Natural Science Award, the Technological Invention Award, the Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, the Innovation Award for the Ethnic Medicine Industry, and the Award for Contributions to the Inheritance of Ethnic Medicine. These awards fill a gap in China—there has previously been no specialized award dedicated to scientific and technological innovation in ethnic medicine.
