On August 12, Director Dazhen from the Lhasa Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital (formerly the director of the Pediatrics Department at the Autonomous Region’s Second People’s Hospital), who is an expert pediatrician in the fight against this round of the epidemic, urgently arrived at the Third People’s Hospital of the Autonomous Region—the hospital currently admitting children affected by this outbreak—to join the rescue efforts. The special ecological conditions at high altitude, combined with the onslaught of COVID-19, have made the safety and accurate treatment of young patients particularly challenging. The experts are fully focused, thinking deeply and carefully, and making decisions with utmost caution to ensure the best possible outcome.
On the very day she joined the rescue efforts, Director Dazhen immediately held a video consultation with experts from Beijing and other regions to discuss medication strategies for children infected with COVID-19. Specifically addressing the issue of combined use of traditional ethnic medicines, Director Dazhen drew upon the results of a three-year collaborative clinical study conducted at the Second People’s Hospital of the Autonomous Region from 2018 to 2021, which had validated the efficacy of Jiwei Zhuhuang Powder in treating pediatric pneumonia in 120 cases. Based on this evidence, Director Dazhen recommended Jiwei Zhuhuang Powder. With the approval of the expert panel, Jiwei Zhuhuang Powder was added to the list of medications approved for children’s epidemic prevention. The pharmacy of the Third People’s Hospital of the Autonomous Region promptly initiated procurement overnight.
On August 14, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine learned that Jiui Zhu Huang San was being used to treat children with COVID-19. Immediately afterward, the company donated two boxes of Jiui Zhu Huang San to the Third Hospital of the Autonomous Region, helping young patients on the plateau recover their health at an early date.
