— Lei Jufang, recipient of the “First National Nomination Award for Moral Models”
Lei Jufang, who founded Qizheng Tibetan Medicine in the field of Tibetan medicine, deeply appreciates the selfless support and heartfelt affection she has received from the local government and people. She is profoundly grateful for the care and assistance provided by the government and community, as well as for the guidance and teachings of Tibetan culture teachers and experts. While she creates wealth, she never seeks to monopolize it; in her view, wealth belongs not only to society but also to the masses. She lives by these principles and acts accordingly. Over the past two decades, her company—Qizheng Tibetan Medicine—has grown into an industry leader, and she herself has written a brilliant chapter of gratitude through her commitment to “altruism.” She is Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Gansu Qizheng Industrial Group Co., Ltd., and recipient of the “First National Nomination Award for Moral Models.”
Rise up traditional industries with a spirit of altruism.
On the afternoon of August 21, the reporter visited Leijufang’s Tibetan medicine production base in Yuzhong. As we drove along Qizheng Avenue and entered the gate, a gentle breeze carried with it a rich aroma of traditional Chinese medicine. The courtyard was shaded by lush green trees, and the freshly watered lawn was vividly verdant, offering a delightful visual experience. After seeing off guests who had come from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Leijufang, despite her busy schedule, warmly welcomed the reporter for an interview.
In her own words, Lei Jufang is a born idealist. It is precisely her inner commitment to serving others and her unwavering dedication to exploration and research that have driven her from the laboratory to the marketplace—and drawn her closer to the Tibetan medical culture, which is rooted in the principle of benefiting all sentient beings. In the early 1990s, in Gannan, Lei Jufang embarked on her journey to the plateau with a thirst for learning and seeking answers. There, she came across one of the eighty illustrated charts of Tibetan medicine—the “Diagram of Embryonic Development.” The vivid depiction transcended language, revealing to Lei Jufang the profound mysteries of life. When she learned that the precise theory behind this chart had been formulated entirely without the aid of any instruments—long before microscopic technology confirmed the secrets of embryonic development by more than a thousand years—Lei Jufang felt deeply that she had unlocked the door to a treasure trove. She also realized that her lifelong pursuit of benefiting others had finally found its true purpose, and her career had found its ultimate home.
Shine a light on poverty alleviation through altruistic acts.
In 1995, the China Guangcai Program sent a delegation of Chinese private enterprises to Tibet. Lei Jufang was deeply moved by the Guangcai Program’s philosophy of “balancing profit with public interest.” She recognized that this approach would differ from the short-term, emergency aid projects typically characterized by mere “blood transfusions”—instead, it would tap into the true source of social wealth in impoverished regions and bring about lasting transformation in those areas. Thus, Lei Jufang planted the very first seed of the Guangcai Program in Tibet and founded Qizheng Tibetan Medicine. Nineteen years later, the Guangcai Program has firmly taken root in Tibet, and Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s “Tree of Life” has grown robustly. The program has been successfully operating ever since.
The third Tibetan medicine factory of Qizheng is a shining project invested and built in Yuzhong County, Gansu Province. Today, Qizheng’s pharmaceutical plant in Yuzhong has become a significant economic force in the local area, and its contribution to the local economy has been growing year by year.
Having dedicated twenty years to the cause of Tibetan medicine, Lei Jufang has steadfastly upheld her altruistic mission, investing over 80 million yuan cumulatively over the years in public welfare initiatives such as medical care, education, poverty alleviation, and disaster relief in Tibetan areas. As of 2014, the “Special Fund for the Protection and Inheritance of Tibetan Culture” had completed nearly 200 specialized projects focused on cultural preservation and inheritance.
Fusing ethnic solidarity through altruistic actions.
Lei Jufang believes that the social progress of any ethnic group is inseparable from industrial advancement, and industrial advancement, in turn, depends on the development of local enterprises and the cultivation of local talent. Young people from these ethnic groups who have received higher education constitute the core force for building a pool of local talent.
In the process of establishing her business across Tibet and Gansu, Lei Jufang actively recruited Tibetan college and graduate students from well-known domestic institutions, continuously enhancing the training of multi-ethnic, versatile talents from Tibetan, Han, Hui, and Monpa communities, thereby nurturing a group of locally rooted core employees. In 2008, the team at Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s Lanzhou Manufacturing Center was awarded the title of “National Advanced Team.” With the company’s support, Hou Hongbing, an engineer at the Lanzhou Manufacturing Center, obtained more than 20 personal patents and inventions, earning him the National Federation of Industry and Commerce Award for Scientific and Technological Progress. That same year, when Qizheng Tibetan Medicine began constructing a factory in Linzhi, it hired four successive groups of local ethnic minority people with disabilities over several years, helping to alleviate the local government’s employment challenges. These disabled workers now enjoy stable incomes at Qizheng. In 2006, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine designed and built employee apartments in Linzhi, Tibet, giving priority housing to disabled employees.
From more than a decade of arduous entrepreneurial experience, Lei Jufang has come to realize that the vitality of Changshou Company stems from the objective laws of nature, from the value axioms repeatedly confirmed throughout human history, and from the righteousness of the organization itself. Based on this insight, and drawing on her profound understanding of Tibetan medicine’s cultural wisdom and her dedicated study of Eastern civilization, Lei Jufang has developed a corporate culture centered on “doing good and benefiting others, pursuing the right path and engaging in righteous business.” This has enabled the company to accumulate a unique corporate essence and has propelled Qizheng steadily forward—from nothing to something, from small to large—on an ongoing journey of growth and development. As for the future, Lei Jufang is full of confidence.
