Recently, the "2nd European Corporate Social Responsibility 2020 Summit" was held in Brussels, Belgium. Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., as a representative of Chinese enterprises, was invited to speak at the forum, sharing its practical experience in developing industries and fulfilling social responsibilities, as well as implementing biodiversity conservation, in minority regions under the broader context of the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to Lei Jufang, Chairperson of Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is one of the regions with the richest biodiversity in the world and also serves as a national ecological barrier protection zone and a source of raw materials for the company. To achieve sustainable development, the company is committed to biodiversity conservation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau primarily through four key approaches. First, we place great emphasis on resource surveys and adopt a source-oriented strategy. The company has carried out extensive efforts to clarify the origins of Tibetan medicinal materials, making resource bottlenecks a decisive factor in rejecting new drug development proposals; moreover, we encourage and promote the research and application of substitutes for endangered Tibetan medicinal materials. Second, we optimize processing techniques to enhance the efficiency of medicinal material utilization. After being ground, the yield of Tibetan medicinal materials reaches 99%, placing us at an advanced level within the industry; we strive to use stems, flowers, fruits, and leaves whenever possible, while preserving the original underground root systems of these plants. Third, we practice sustainable procurement at the places of origin. The raw materials for our products mainly come from Tibet, Qinghai, and other regions, and we consistently recognize and are committed to supporting local residents in leveraging their local ecological resources for development. Fourth, we conduct research on cultivation techniques and build dedicated cultivation bases. Since 1996, Qizheng Company has been engaged in the conservation, cultivation, and wild propagation research of Tibetan medicinal materials. We currently have more than 100,000 mu of various cultivation bases and have conducted research on the cultivation and conservation of over 30 species of Tibetan medicinal materials, achieving significant results.
