On June 22, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s brand advertisement made its debut on the Nasdaq digital billboard in New York’s Times Square, allowing the world to experience the health wisdom and remarkable therapeutic effects of Tibetan medicine from the snow-covered plateau. This marks the first time a Chinese ethnic medicine brand has been showcased in New York’s Times Square.
New York’s Times Square in the United States is renowned as “the Crossroads of the World,” attracting tourists from all over the globe every day. It has become one of the world’s most prominent stages for top global brands and has also emerged as one of the best windows for Chinese enterprises to go global and capture worldwide attention. In recent years, the Chinese government has emphasized accelerating the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), providing fresh impetus for TCM’s global outreach. As a result, an increasing number of TCM and ethnic medicine enterprises have stepped up their efforts to promote their products overseas, enabling the world to gain a deeper understanding of and embrace TCM and ethnic medicine. This not only boosts the internationalization of the TCM and ethnic medicine industries but also allows the world to share in the cultural treasures and wisdom crystallized by TCM and ethnic medicine. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s appearance on the big screen at Times Square this time will enable the world to appreciate the unique culture of Tibetan medicine and further accelerate the journey of ethnic medicine enterprises onto the international stage.
As an important component of China’s traditional medicine, ethnic medicine has made indispensable contributions to the health of both Chinese people and people around the world. In particular, it boasts unique advantages in the treatment of complex and difficult-to-cure diseases, serious illnesses, and chronic conditions. As a leading domestic enterprise specializing in Tibetan medicine, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is committed to becoming the “modern inheritor of millennia-old Tibetan medicine.” In recent years, the company has also been actively pursuing internationalization; its products entered overseas markets as early as 2003. In 2013, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine partnered with Professor David Christiani, an internationally renowned expert in occupational disease research at Harvard University, to establish the “Harvard University Professor David Christiani-Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Research Laboratory,” which focuses on the role and expansion of Tibetan medicine in addressing major diseases from a global perspective.
It is reported that currently, 4 billion people worldwide use traditional Chinese medicine products, and the global TCM market has an annual turnover approaching 500 billion yuan. Chinese medicinal herbs are now exported to 168 countries and regions, with Asia being the primary export market for TCM, followed by the United States as the second-largest market. Aside from China, 64 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania have successively established research and regulatory agencies dedicated to TCM and traditional ethnic medicines, totaling over 2,000 institutions. Among these, Japan, the United States, and Germany have the largest numbers of TCM researchers. Currently, about 5% of patients in the United States take natural remedies—including Chinese medicine—and there are approximately 12,000 Chinese medicine shops, Chinese-Western medicine stores, or health product stores selling Chinese medicine across the U.S., with annual sales exceeding 2 billion U.S. dollars.
