On December 6, the results of the 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility Education Project Outstanding Case Solicitation and the 5th CSR China Education Awards were officially announced. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine won two prestigious awards—“CSR CHINA Annual Best Sustainable Development” and “Annual Best Responsible Corporate Brand”—for its exemplary efforts in promoting education and cultivating talent in ethnic minority regions. This marks the second consecutive year that the company has simultaneously earned these two top honors in the CSR CHINA rankings, since it first received the highest honor, the “CSR CHINA Model Award,” as the country’s first domestic enterprise in 2016.
Education and Talent Development in Ethnic Minority Areas
Supporting education in ethnic minority regions and cultivating local talent helps achieve equity and balance in education, injecting fresh vitality into the development and prosperity of these regions.
Over the years of its development, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has consistently focused on education and talent cultivation in ethnic minority regions—from supporting general education and promoting traditional Tibetan medical education to fostering scientific, technical, and managerial talents who meet the needs of modern enterprises. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has always regarded it as its rightful responsibility and mission to nurture a group of talented individuals in ethnic minority regions—individuals equipped with a solid knowledge base, inclusive and confident character, and an open-minded, cross-cultural perspective.
Since 2004, the company has wholly funded and built Qizheng Primary School and Gongbu Manlong Yutuo Tibetan Medicine School in the Tibetan areas. Over the years, it has cumulatively invested 48.4492 million yuan to support education and talent development in ethnic minority regions. To date, the company provides annual financial support to Qizheng Primary School for infrastructure construction and teaching programs; assists eight Tibetan orphans in continuing their high school studies; has awarded the “Qizheng-Saicang Scholarship” for 17 consecutive years, benefiting over a thousand students; operates a scholarship program for impoverished college students in Yuzhong County; joins forces with the Gansu Provincial Poverty Alleviation Foundation to donate sports equipment to primary and secondary school students in rural areas; and continues to provide ongoing funding and support to six private Tibetan medicine schools. Since the company’s establishment and through its sponsorship of these Tibetan medicine schools, a total of 5,118 students have graduated from them.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, the employment situation for college graduates has become severe. To ease the employment pressure on recent graduates from Tibet, the company has launched a special campus recruitment program targeted specifically at recent graduates from Tibet. In 2020, the company hired 31 recent and former graduates from Tibet; in 2021, this recruitment initiative is ongoing.
The CSR China Education List was established in 2014 and is the only corporate social responsibility (CSR) award in China’s education sector. Since its inception, 536 domestic and international companies have submitted applications. Mr. Zhang Shaoping, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Corporate Citizenship Committee of the China Association of Social Work, commented on the 2021 event as follows: “The corporate social responsibility education projects solicited this time fully demonstrate the dedication and commitment of enterprises in fulfilling their responsibilities. Enterprises have actively coordinated resources from various parties, promoted cross-sector collaboration, established collaborative mechanisms, and deeply integrated precise responsibility fulfillment with their core business. Leveraging their expertise, technology, products, and services, they have engaged in social service initiatives and addressed pressing social issues.”
