On March 21, the Gansu College of Health Professions and Qizheng Tibetan Medicine jointly established the “Tibetan Medicine Industry College,” holding a commencement ceremony and unveiling ceremony at the Lanzhou New Area Vocational Education Park. This marks the first-ever instance nationwide of a university and enterprise jointly offering an associate-degree program in Tibetan medicine.
Gansu Health Vocational College is the only higher vocational college in our province specializing in medicine and health. To date, it has trained over 100,000 medical, health, and hygiene professionals for the country and is widely acclaimed as the "cradle of medical and health talent in Longyuan." Qizheng Tibetan Medicine is China's largest manufacturer of Tibetan medicines, primarily engaged in the research, development, production, and sales of innovative Tibetan pharmaceutical products. As a key demand-side player in the industry, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine conducted an in-depth study on the current state of Tibetan medicine talent cultivation. The survey findings revealed that, as of now, Gansu Province does not have any institutions offering specialized-level Tibetan medicine education. To open up upward career pathways for secondary vocational students and to cultivate high-quality, technically skilled personnel for the development of specialty industries in Gansu Province and across the country, with joint efforts from the Provincial Department of Education, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, and the college itself, Gansu Health Vocational College was approved in February 2022 to add a nationally-controlled Tibetan Medicine major. Meanwhile, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Gansu Foguo Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., is investing approximately 3 billion yuan in Lintao to build the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Hospital, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Central Factory, the Qizheng Elderly Care Center, and the Lintao Demonstration Base for Grassroots Diagnosis and Treatment by Renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctors in Gansu Province. These projects are expected to be fully completed by 2025 and are projected to create 700 new employment opportunities.
After joint deliberation between the university and the enterprise, it has been decided to establish the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Industry College through collaborative efforts between Gansu Health Vocational College and the enterprise, leveraging the Tibetan Medicine program at the college. Guided by the principles of "deep integration, common development, and win-win cooperation," this initiative will innovate talent-development models, integrate the best resources from both parties and the industry, and vigorously promote collaboration in areas such as "joint specialty development, co-creation of models, joint formulation of plans, co-authoring of teaching materials, joint implementation of instruction, co-construction of practice bases, joint training of faculty, joint enhancement of quality, mutual support for employment, and shared outcomes." This endeavor will give rise to a set of benchmark standards that will lead the reform of vocational education, fostering a virtuous cycle across various stages—including talent supply, technical skills training, technological R&D and promotion, and faculty-development bases—thus providing sustainable human and intellectual resource support for both industrial and local economic development.
