On April 25, a powerful earthquake measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale struck Nepal. More than a month has passed, and Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction efforts are steadily underway. Through direct communication with local Nepalese civil organizations, the company learned that, constrained by economic conditions, Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure remains relatively underdeveloped. The shortage of doctors and medicines has become even more acute in the aftermath of the disaster, leaving many patients unable to receive effective medical treatment. In response, the company immediately organized a medical rescue team and dispatched it to Kathmandu to provide post-disaster medical assistance.
From June 13 to June 23, when they returned home, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Medical Rescue Team spent a total of 10 days providing free medical consultations in Nepal, treating a total of 796 patients and receiving an enthusiastic welcome from the local people. Tarang College in Nepal provided the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Medical Rescue Team with a temporary clinic and free accommodation and meals, and also assigned three young assistants to help carry out the medical consultations. Additionally, several other international volunteers who were already working in Nepal on post-disaster relief efforts heard about the team’s work and voluntarily joined the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Medical Rescue Team to lend their assistance.
At the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine free clinic, the waiting area was filled with patients every single day; on the busiest day, as many as 195 patients were seen. Thanks to the remarkable therapeutic effects, many of the patients who had been treated earlier returned to the clinic, hoping to receive additional courses of treatment. Elderly patients also gave extremely positive feedback on Qizheng Pain-Relieving Plasters and expressed their wish to continue using this product. During the free clinic activities, Tibetan doctors performed venesection—a traditional Tibetan external therapy—on a patient suffering from pharyngitis and liver-gallbladder disorders. While providing medical care and diagnosis for these patients, members of the small team also offered emotional support and assistance, helping to soothe the psychological trauma that the patients had endured during the earthquake.
During their time in Nepal, the small team experienced several aftershocks, the strongest of which reached a magnitude of 5.2. Yet, one member involved in this medical rescue operation said: “Although every day in Nepal is incredibly busy, it brings us great satisfaction to relieve patients’ suffering. The local people are remarkably positive, optimistic, and remarkably calm. Every day, many people line up patiently for treatment, yet everyone remains orderly and never rushes or jostles for position. While we’re providing them with assistance, they, in turn, give us even more spiritually.”
During their medical relief mission in Nepal, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Medical Rescue Team engaged in thorough communication with staff from the Anigo Association of Nepal, ensuring that the post-disaster relief supplies provided by the company reached those most in need. At the same time, the team ventured deep into the disaster-stricken areas to gain firsthand insights into the local situation and gather critical information, laying the groundwork for the distribution of the 1,000 tents that the company’s foundation has pledged to raise, and setting a solid foundation for future relief efforts.
On June 23, the Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Medical Rescue Team departed from Kathmandu. Early in the morning, patients who had received treatment came to bid them farewell, presenting the rescue team with khadas to express their heartfelt gratitude and respect. “When one country is in distress, support comes from all directions.” On the Nepalese people’s long journey toward rebuilding their homes after the disaster, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine will continue to pay close attention and provide whatever assistance it can.
