On December 22, the third annual “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) China Culture Award,” hosted by the magazine “National Humanities and History” published by the People’s Daily, was held in Beijing. Among the 16 shortlisted organizations, eight awards were presented, recognizing outstanding contributions. Lei Jufang, Chairwoman of Qizheng Tibetan Medicine, was awarded the Leading Figure Award for her more than 20-year commitment to protecting and preserving Tibet’s traditional culture.
In the context of Tibet’s rapid modernization and commercialization, how to truly protect and preserve Tibetan traditional culture has become a crucial question. As an outstanding cultural resource of the ethnic group, Tibetan medicine has been passed down on the snowy plateau for over 2,000 years and has now become one of Tibet’s distinctive pillar industries.
Rooted in ethnic regions for over 20 years, Ms. Lei Jufang, Chairperson of Tibet Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd., has proposed the concept of "cultural value participation in distribution." She believes: "Traditional medical culture is a treasure trove of wisdom from humanity's guardians of life; only those endowed with virtue, blessed with good fortune, and driven by strong aspirations can gain access to it. Passing on this heritage is a mission, a responsibility, and a commitment. Only through wholehearted dedication and全力以赴 can we overcome countless difficulties without wavering—surely leading us to a realm of enduring beauty and boundless prosperity!"
Qizheng Tibetan Medicine explicitly regards cultural heritage preservation as one of the core issues for the company’s sustainable development and has integrated it into the company’s sustainability planning. In 2007, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine made a sole-investment contribution to establish a special fund for Tibetan cultural preservation and inheritance under the China Guangcai Program Foundation, with the aim of promoting social welfare and civilizational progress in western China across such areas as economy, education, healthcare, public health, and culture. As of the end of 2015, the company had cumulatively invested over 90 million yuan and implemented more than 200 public welfare projects.
After more than 20 years of practice, Qizheng Tibetan Medicine has developed a unique approach to the preservation and inheritance of Tibetan culture that reflects its own distinctive characteristics: At the source of the culture, it supports the publication of classic texts by master Tibetan physicians; in terms of cultivating cultural heritage professionals, it supports the reconstruction of the Five Sciences Cultural Institute and the establishment of traditional Tibetan medical schools; in terms of cultural dissemination, it builds Tibetan medicine culture pavilions at its own industrial bases and uses a unique marketing model that combines culture with academia to promote Tibetan medical culture; and at the practical level of cultural engagement, it supports the construction of Tibetan medical clinics and provides funding for their operation—by the end of 2015, it had donated and funded the operation of 14 such clinics.
